Fisher clutch in wins over Washington (Md.) and Husson

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - Riley Fisher came within two outs of a no-hitter in game one, picked up a save in game two, and the No. 25 Simpson softball team added two more wins Monday at the Rebel Spring Games, beating Washington (Md.) 4-0 and Husson 4-2.

Fisher tossed a complete-game, one-hitter against Washington, striking out eight. After that, she came on in relief of Abbie VanVleet against Husson, allowing just one hit over the final 1 2/3 innings in the save. She also homered earlier in the game.

VanVleet earned the win against Husson, as she and Fisher improve to 6-0 on the year. At 14-0, the Storm match the program's longest winning streak to start a season since also starting 14-0 in 2003.

Simpson 4, Washington (Md.) 0
Rachel Guessford drove in a run on a single in the first, enough breathing room for Fisher. Tori Haag finished 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, and Stacie Brown and Ashley Prettyman each drove in a run. The lone blemish on Fisher's scorecard heading into the seventh was a walk in the second. Kristin Cooper broke up the no-hitter with a single to right with one out in the seventh.

Simpson 4, Husson 2
VanVleet settled down after allowing three hits and two runs in the first inning, holding Husson to four hits until leaving with one out in the sixth. She helped her own cause in the third, hitting the go-ahead, two-RBI triple to break a 2-2 tie. Haag finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored as the Storm defeated the third 2014 NCAA Tournament Team since arriving in Florida.
