Christowski earns win No. 600 as Storm improve to 8-0

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - Simpson head softball coach Henry Christowski picked up his 600th career win and Simpson swept its first two games to start the Rebel Spring Games, beating St. Scholastica 13-3 in five innings and edging Westminster (Pa.) 2-0 on Friday.

Christowski reached the 600 mark with Simpson's win over St. Scholastica. Now in his 20th season with the Storm, all of Christowski's collegiate wins have been at Simpson. After the win over Westminster, Christowski is 601-200-2 overall. His wins rank 14th among active Division III coaches and he is the 23rd coach in Division III history to reach 600 wins.

"[The wins] don't really mean that much to me," Christowski said in an interview before the season. "It's nice to see in paper and nice to see in print. But the thing that's really going to mean something to me is if we can get this team not only to win a the conference, but to qualify for postseason play.

"My wins just mean that I've gotten my uniform washed a few more times."

Simpson 13, St. Scholastica 3
The Storm used a seven-run second inning to cruise past the Saints, one of eight 2014 NCAA Regional qualifiers Simpson will face during the week. Taylor Davis went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and Riley Fisher didn't allow a run off three hits in four innings of work to improve to 4-0 in the circle. Fisher also had two RBIs, along with Tori Haag, Hailey Jensen and Britney Steele.

Simpson 2, Westminster (Pa.) 0
Abbie VanVleet threw a complete-game gem to make up for Simpson's lowest offensive output of the season. VanVleet (3-0) scattered six hits, struck out three and allowed just one runner to advance past second. Rachel Guessford drove in the winning run on a sacrifice fly in the third and Jensen plated an RBI single in the fifth for insurance. Stacie Brown scored both Simpson runs.
