Perfect Harmon-y: Harmon homers twice in sweep

INDIANOLA, Iowa - Hillary Harmon hit two home runs in game one and the Simpson softball team hit four long balls on the day, sweeping Westminster 9-2 and 3-2 on Tuesday.

Hailey Jensen also hit a round-tripper in game one and Tori Haag led off game two with a blast to center as the Storm (20-12) extended their winning streak to four and won for the seventh time in the last 10 games.

The win extends Simpson's streak of 20-win seasons to 21, a run that began two years before head coach Henry Christowski's arrival.

Harmon finished 3-for-3 with a career-high six RBIs in the opener, one shy of tying the program's single-game mark. She drove in three on a bases-clearing double to give Simpson a 3-0 lead in the third, hit a two-run blast to right in the fourth and hit a solo shot in the sixth.

Jensen led off the sixth with a homer and Harmon followed with her own to put the finishing touches on the convincing 9-2 win.

Britney Steele went 3-for-4 with a double and Kaytlyn Ernst (6-8) struck out four in 5 2/3 innings for her first win since March 13.

Hits were harder to come by for Simpson in game two, but Stacie Brown came up with a big one in the fifth.

With the game tied 1-1 and the bases full, Brown drove in two on a two-out single to give Simpson a 3-1 lead.

The Blue Jays (11-17) scored an unearned run in the sixth to pull within 3-2, but Abbie Van Vleet retired the side in order in the seventh to close the door.

Van Vleet (13-2) allowed just five hits and struck out six in her 12th complete-game of the season, going 3-for-3 with a double in the process.

Haag's leadoff homer in the first moved her season-leading total to four. Van Vleet, Steele, Harmon and Ashley Prettyman all have three.

The Storm return to Iowa Conference play Saturday, April 19 when they travel to Pella for a doubleheader against Central. The 11th-ranked Dutch (26-6, 6-2) swept Loras on Saturday.

First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
