Simpson rolls Illinois College, Concordia-Chicago

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The day after losing its first game of the season, the Simpson softball team rolled over Illinois College and Concordia-Chicago in a pair of run-ruled contests.

Simpson beat Illinois College 12-4 and Concordia-Chicago 15-1 to improve to 15-1 on the year. Each game lasted only five innings.

Simpson 12, Illinois College 4 (5 innings)
Jessica Toyne went 3-for-5 with two doubles and Ashley Prettyman went 2-for-3 with a  pair of doubles and three RBIs as Simpson rolled.

After a scoreless first, Simpson put the game away with eight runs in the second thanks to four straight hits to start the inning. Toyne had two hits and two RBIs in the frame.

Kacee Arey (8-1) went 3 1/3 innings for the win.

Paige Meyer hit a three-run home run in the fourth for the Lady Blues (2-5).

Simpson 15, Concordia-Chicago 1 (5 innings)
Chelsea Winegard, Hailey Jensen and Kylie Van Houten had three hits and one home run apiece and Simpson had 10 extra-base hits in the win.

Jensen and Van Houten hit back-to-back jacks in the second, with Jensen driving in three. Winegard hit her own three-run bomb in the fourth, as she and Jensen finished with four RBIs apiece.

Arey (9-1) allowed four hits and a run in three innings of work and Katlyn Ernst struck out two in the final two.

Sarah James drove in the lone run for the Cougars (2-5).
