Simpson starts hot in Florida, moves to 10-0

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Simpson softball team continued its hot start to the 2013 season by going 4-0 during the first two days of its trip to the Rebel Spring Games this weekend.

Simpson swept Franklin on Saturday (9-2, 5-3) and beat Beloit (9-1) and Muskingum (13-5, 6 inn.) on Sunday to move to a perfect 10-0 on the season.

Saturday, March 2

Simpson 9, Franklin 2
Freshman Ashley Prettyman went 4-for-4 with three RBIs, Kylie Van Houten drove in two and Chelsea Winegard doubled as the Storm cruised over Franklin in game one. Kacee Arey (4-0) earned the win in the circle.

Simpson 5, Franklin 3
Rachel Guessford powered Simpson to a four-run third inning with a three-run homer over the centerfield fence and Arey replaced Katlyn Ernst in the fourth to get the save. Winegard also homered and Ernst (4-0) got the win.

Sunday, March 3

Simpson 9, Beloit 1 (6 innings)
Ernst (5-0) tossed a complete-game, three-hitter, Hailey Jensen drove in two runs with a double and a homer and Stacie Brown went 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Winegard added a triple as Simpson built a 5-0 lead in the first three innings.

Simpson 13, Muskingum 5 (6 innings)
Jensen went 3-for-4 and six different players drove in two runs apiece as the Storm scored five in the first, four in the third and four in the sixth. Arey (5-0) struck out four in the win.

Simpson faces Thomas More and Illinois College on Monday.
