Coopman named academic all-district

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Simpson softball player Carissa Coopman earned a spot on the Capital One Academic All-District® VIII First Team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.

Coopman, a senior first baseman from Davenport, Iowa, carries a 3.80 cumulative grade point average as a liberal arts and elementary education major.

As a first team selection, Coopman advances to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.

After 42 games, Coopman is hitting .375 while leading the team in home runs (7) and RBIs (38). Her 38 RBIs rank third in the Iowa Conference and her 82 total bases are second.

Coopman is one of three players representing the Iowa Conference, joined by Luther's Kelsey Kittleson and Shari Huber.

To be eligible for consideration, student-athletes must own a cumulative GPA of at least 3.3 on a 4.0 scale.
