Simpson closes Rebel Spring Games 10-4

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Simpson softball split play in the final four games of the Rebel Spring Games, closing the tournament with a sparkling 10-4 record.

On Thursday, the Storm (13-7) beat Aurora 10-2 (5) and fell to Mt. Union 5-0. Simpson went on to beat Trine 8-2 in Friday's first game before dropping a 4-0 decision to Coast Guard.

Simpson 10, Aurora 2 (5 innings)
Carissa Coopman hit a grand slam as part of a five-run first inning and Kacee Arey dealt a two-hitter as the Storm beat Aurora for the second time in four days. Hailey Jensen went 4-for-4 with a double and Tieryn Potratz hit a home run.

Mt. Union 5, Simpson 0
The Storm committed four errors and only managed two hits in the loss. Arey walked seven in the circle.

Simpson 8, Trine 2
Chelsea Winegard went 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and three RBIs in the win. Hillary Harmon drove in two runs, Veronica Roshek went 3-for-4 and Simpson had five extra-base hits as a team. Arey got the complete-game win, striking out six.

Coast Guard 4, Simpson 0
The four runs put up by Coast Guard in the third were the only scores of the game. Arey took the loss and Jessica Toyne pitched four shutout innings to close it.

The Storm return to action March 20 when they travel to Westminster for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
