Arey deals perfect game

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Kacee Arey pitched a perfect game against Catholic and the Simpson softball team split a pair of contests at the Rebel Spring Games on Wednesday.

The Storm (11-5) beat Catholic 11-0 in five innings to start the day before a hard-fought, 5-3 loss to seventh-ranked Cortland State. The loss snapped Simpson's eight-game winning streak.

Simpson 11, Catholic 0 (5 innings)
Arey threw Simpson's first no-hitter since 2008 and the program's first perfect game since 2005. Veronica Roshek and Hailey Jensen each had three hits and two RBIs and Kylie Van Houten had two hits and three RBIs. Chelsea Winegard's diving catch in the outfield preserved the no-hitter in the fifth inning.

No. 7 Cortland State 5, Simpson 3
Simpson trailed 2-1 going into the seventh before the Red Dragons plated three in the final frame. Jensen had two hits and two RBIs, Keri Sorensen had two hits and Stacie Brown went 2-for-2. Arey took the loss, going the distance and striking out five.

Simpson's last no-hitter came on April 5, 2008 when Callie Hohneke no-hit Luther in a 2-1 win … Simpson's last perfect game came on April 3, 2005 when Marissa Campbell threw five perfect innings in an 8-0 win over Crown.
