Storm split final day at season-opening tournament

MARQUETTE, Mich. – Kacee Arey tossed a complete-game, one-hitter against UW-Oshkosh and the Simpson softball team split its final two games at the Finlandia Dome Tournament on Sunday.

The Storm (3-3) beat UW-Oshkosh 6-0 in the first game of the day before dropping a 10-8 decision to UW-Stevens Point.

Simpson and Oshkosh remained scoreless until the fourth inning when Kylie Van Houten drove in the game-winning RBI.

Veronica Roshek had two hits and two RBIs, Hailey Jensen had two hits and Chelsea Winegard drove in two runs.

Arey finished with 10 strikeouts.

Stevens Point built a 7-1 lead in the first four innings before Simpson put up three in the fifth and four in the sixth.

Tieryn Potratz finished 4-for-4 with a triple and an RBI. Roshek and Jensen each had two hits and two RBIs.

Arey took the loss in relief of Jessica Toyne, giving up six earned runs in six innings of work.

Next up for the Storm is the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimme, Fla. on March 2-10.
