Softball goes 2-2 to start 2012

MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Simpson softball endured a grind of four games on the first day of the Finlandia Dome Tournament, closing the day with a 2-2 record.

Simpson lost the opener to Carthage 4-1, then fell to Edgewood 9-7 before getting a 16-2 (5 innings) win over St. Scholastica and a 6-3 win over Marian.

Simpson hit six home runs on the day, led by two from Carissa Coopman. She also had a triple and a double. Tieryn Potratz had a homer and two doubles, Hailey Jensen had a homer and two doubles and pitcher Kacee Arey had a round-tripper.

Coopman had a team-high six RBIs in four games.

Arey (1-2) suffered losses against Carthage and Edgewood but earned the win against St. Scholastica. Jessica Toyne (1-0) went the distance in the win over Marian.

The Storm continue play Sunday when they take on UW-Oshkosh at 8 a.m. and UW-Stevens Point at 10 a.m.
