Storm's run comes to an end against Coe

DECORAH, Iowa - Ashlee Simon struck out 12 batters, CC Williams drove in two runs and third-seeded Coe ended fourth-seeded Simpson's run in the Iowa Conference Softball Tournament with a 4-1 win Saturday.

Tieryn Potratz (Fort Dodge, Iowa) drove in the only run of the game for the Storm (24-18) when she singled in the third, giving Simpson a 1-0 lead.

Abby Flannagan responded with a solo homer in the fourth and Williams scored the winning run with her solo shot to lead off the fifth.

Simon (25-2) retired 12 of the last 15 batters to help Coe - ranked No. 7 in the nation - advance to the first champinship game against top-seeded Luther.

Chelsea Winegard (Muscatine, Iowa) led off the seventh with a double but advanced no further, putting an end to Simpson's improbable run. After losing to fifth-seeded Loras on the first day of the double-elimination tournament, Simpson stayed alive on Friday with an 8-4 upset of league champion Central and a 6-3 win over Cornell.

Potratz finished 1-for-4 as the Storm managed only four hits off Simon. After tossing all 14 innings Friday, Bryn Johnson (Laurens, Iowa) went 4 2/3 against Coe. The senior (6-5) gave up three runs off eight hits, striking out two. Kacee Arey (Lucas, Iowa) pitched the final 1 1/3.
