INDIANOLA - Hillary Harmon drove in the winning run in game two, three pitchers held Loras to six hits on the day and Simpson swept Loras in a doubleheader at Simpson Softball Complex on Saturday.
The Storm (20-8, 6-0 Iowa Conference) won game one 9-1 in five innings and took the nightcap 4-2. Simpson ran its winning streak to six while remaining unbeaten in conference play.
The Duhawks (9-14, 3-3) committed seven errors on the day, allowing seven unearned runs in game one.
Game 1 - Simpson 9, Loras 1 (5 innings)
Kylie Van Houten hit a 3-RBI double as part of seven-run fourth inning and Simpson run-ruled Loras 9-1 in five innings.
The Storm took advantage of four Loras errors in the inning, breaking open what was a 1-0 lead. Potratz drove in a run on a sacrifice fly which scored two additional runs due to a pair of Duhawk throwing errors. Allie Hock singled in a run with her second hit of the game.
Hock finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Van Houten went 1-for-3 and Veronica Roshek went 2-for-2. Kacee Arey (10-3) went four innings in the win, allowing one hit and one run, striking out three.
Deanna Angelini drove in the only run for the Duhawks on a groundout in the fifth. Kellie Klein took the loss, allowing nine hits and nine runs - two earned.
Game 2 - Simpson 4, Loras 2
Harmon's RBI single in the fifth provided the winning run, Allison Barloon allowed only one run in six innings of work and Simpson held on for a 4-2 win against Loras in game two of the doubleheader.
Roshek went 2-for-4 and Amanda Enochs went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Storm. Barloon (5-1) allowed one run in the win, a solo homer by Sara Palczynski in the fourth. She struck out four and walked two.
Leading 2-1, Harmon gave Simpson a two-run cushion with a single past the third baseman, scoring Roshek. An RBI fielder's choice by Tieryn Potratz made the score 4-1 after six, when Bryn Johnson came on for her second save of the season.
Shelby Perkins went 2-for-3 for the Duhawks. Stephanie Popovich (3-5) took the loss in the circle, allowing 10 hits and four earned runs.
Simpson puts its undefeated conference mark on the line Wednesday, April 13 when No. 9 Central visits Simpson Softball Complex for a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m.
