Simpson drops pair of 1-run heartbreakers

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - A pair of unearned runs resulted in two losses for Simpson at the Rebel Spring Games on Wednesday, as No. 22 Illinois Wesleyan and St. Norbert notched 1-0 wins over the Storm.

After averaging nine runs per game in the first eight games of the tournament, the Storm (10-6) couldn't get on the board Wednesday.

No. 22 Illinois Wesleyan 1, Simpson 0
Simpson out-hit the Titans but two errors in the top of the first inning allowed what would be the winning run to cross the plate.

Simpson had six hits compared to two for Illinois Wesleyan. Kacee Arey (4-1) was the hard-luck loser.

St. Norbert 1, Simpson 0
Morgan Buboltz's RBI single in the sixth inning proved the difference.

Simpson had an opportunity in the fourth when Hillary Harmon hit a 1-out triple. But a pair of pop outs ended the threat.

Bryn Johnson held the Green Knights scoreless in the first four innings. Arey (4-2) took the loss in relief.

Simpson has Thursday off and will face Ramapo and Millikin on Friday.
