Oviatt, Sorensen and Hock named all-region

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Senior pitcher Whitney Oviatt (Carnation, Wash./Cedarcrest), sophomore shortstop Keri Sorensen (Bettendorf, Iowa/Pleasant Valley) and junior catcher Allie Hock (Lawrence, Kan./Free State) earned spots on the 2010 Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Midwest Region Team, as announced by the NFCA.

The Storm finished the 2010 campaign 33-12, winning the first regular season Iowa Conference Championship since 2000 and making the 14th NCAA Division III Championship appearance in program history. Simpson finished fourth at the Midwest Regional, held in Indianola.

Oviatt's selection marks her third appearance on the All-Midwest Region, receiving third team bids in 2008 and 2009. Oviatt took home Iowa Conference Pitcher of the Year honors in 2010, going 24-7 with a 1.70 ERA in 205 1/3 innings pitched. Oviatt earned all-tournament honors at the Midwest Regional, became Simpson's first 20-game winner since Kelly (Schade) Fry won 37 games in 1999 and recorded her 400th career strikeout in 2010.

Sorensen was a First Team All-Iowa Conference selection at shortstop after leading the team with a .372 batting average. She hit four home runs and drove in 25 runs, leading the Iowa Conference's second-best offense. She sported a .933 fielding percentage at shortstop and stole four bases in as many attempts.

Hock made the second team as an at-large selection, the first postseason award of her career. In her second full-time season behind the plate, Hock hit .296 with a home run and 15 RBIs. A pivotal part of the Storm's running game, Hock laid down a team-best 12 sacrifice bunts. Defensively, Hock didn't commit an error and gunned down nine potential base stealers.
