Simpson sweeps Dubuque, extends winning streak to 9

DUBUQUE, Iowa - Whitney Oviatt (Carnation, Wash./Cedarcrest) collected a pair of wins in the circle and Kortney Proctor (Wilton, Iowa/Wilton) went 6-for-8 as Simpson swept a doubleheader with Dubuque Friday at Chalapaty Field, 7-1 and 5-0.

The Storm (15-6, 4-0 IIAC) now own a nine-game winning streak, with their last loss coming at the hands of Rutgers Camden March 16 at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla.

Oviatt handcuffed the Dubuque offense, allowing only four hits and a run in 11 innings. Proctor hit two doubles and dove in two runs as Simpson out-hit the Spartans (6-13, 0-3) 25-8 on the day.

In game one, a four-run second inning provided Oviatt with more than enough breathing room. Tieryn Potratz (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge) drove in two runs in the contest and Proctor enjoyed the first of her back-to-back 3-for-4 efforts at the plate as the Storm cruised to the 7-1 win.

In game two, Oviatt and Jessica Toyne (Bellevue, Neb./East) combined to three-hit the Spartans en-route to the 5-0 win. Oviatt went six innings and Toyne sealed the deal in the seventh. Keri Sorensen's (Bettendorf, Iowa/Pleasant Valley) RBI double in the third inning proved to be the winning run.

Sorensen went 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored on the day, Amanda Enochs (Des Moines, Iowa/East) went 2-for-4 with a double and Kelsie Host (Altoona, Iowa/Southeast Polk) doubled, collected two RBIs and stole a base. Veronica Roshek (Urbandale, Iowa/Johnston) slapped three hits against the Spartans.

Simpson returns to action Saturday, April 10 when it takes on Cornell in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. in Mt. Vernon.
