Thompson earns all-conference honors, Storm finish fifth

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Trey Thompson turned in an all-conference performance and the Simpson men's cross country team finished fifth at the American Rivers Conference Championships hosted by Nebraska Wesleyan on Saturday.

Simpson finished the day with 130 points, narrowly trailing Luther (124) and edging out Central (134).

Thompson finished sixth in a field of 175 runners to earn the first all-conference honors of his career. He ran the 8k course in a time of 26:33.6. His effort is the best by a Simpson runner at the conference championship in six years, when Joe Farrand took fifth place in 2012.

Jonathan Facio finished one place out of all-conference hoors, placing 16th with a time of 27:11.2.

Tyler Combs was the Storm's next finisher, taking 39th with a time of 28:08.3. Finishing fourth out of the Simpson runners was Logan Egeland with a 28:18.7.

Rounding out the Storm top seven were Ryan Courtney at 51st (28:31.2), Cale Billheimer at 54th (28:34) and Caleb Cobbs at 57th (28:36.8).
