INDIANOLA, Iowa -- The Simpson men's cross country team begins the 2018 season ranked among the top 10 teams in the Central Region for the first time in school history.

USTFCCCA Preseason Regional Rankings

The Storm debuted at No. 8 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Central Region Preseason Poll, released Aug. 28. Simpson won its first meet of the season, dominating the competition at the Buxton Invitational on Friday, Aug. 31.

The Storm and eighth-year head coach Heath Moenck return six of their top-seven regional finishers from last year's team that placed 10th at the Central Region Championships, the program's best finish in 21 years. Among the team's top returners are senior Trey Thompson and junior all-conference performer Jonathan Facio.

Simpson goes to Grinnell's Les Duke Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 8.
