Willadsen leads men’s cross country at Running of the Cows

NORTHFIELD, Minn. — Blake Willadsen led the Simpson men's cross country team to a ninth-place finish at the Running of the Cows hosted by Carleton on Saturday.

Simpson finished with 213 points, just behind eighth-place Cornell (205). Loras won the 14-team race with 42 points.

Willadsen ran 26:53.0 to place 21st in the field of 244 runners. Trey Thompson wasn't far behind, running 27:11.2 to place 33rd. The duo traded places from a week ago, when Thompson led Simpson at the Brissman/Lundeen Invitational in Rock Island, Ill.

"Both squads showed improvement from last week," head coach Heath Moenck said. "I'm excited to see what both teams are able to accomplish when fully healthy."

Ethan Pellegrino was the Storm's No. 3 finisher, running 27:26.6 to place 43rd. Levi Lefebure ran 27:44.1 to place fourth and Luke Evans ran 28:03.5 to place 75th. Chad Carter (79th) and Logan Egeland (100th) rounded out the top seven.
