Yaeger leads men's cross country to second at Loras

DUBUQUE, Iowa - Nick Yaeger paced the Simpson men's cross country team to a second-place finish of five teams at the Loras Invitational in the final tune-up before championship season.

The Storm scored 76 points, trailing only 14th-ranked Loras (15). Simpson beat Dubuque (86), Coe (93) and Buena Vista (112).

"The men had a bit of an 'off' day, but to their credit they fought the whole way and still managed a second-place finish," head coach Heath Moenck said.

Yaeger placed 12th in the field of 81 individuals, navigating the 8-kilometer course in 27:12.4.

Ethan Pellegrino placed 20th (27:44.6), Blake Willadsen came in 22nd (27:51.2), Andrew Mayes took 31st (28:33.2) and Ian McKenzie crossed the line in 37th (28:49.1) to round out Simpson's top five.

Miles Kirts (38th, 28:50.7) and Thomas Kolbo (42nd, 29:27.1) rounded out the varsity fiishers.

Up Next

Friday's meet was the team's final tune-up before the Iowa Conference Championships, which Simpson hosts on Nov. 1. The men's race begins at 11 a.m. followed by the women at Pickard Park.
