Storm run to 6th at St. Olaf Invite

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - For the second meet in a row freshman Joe Farrand(Kansas City, Mo.) paced the Simpson men's cross country team, as the Storm finished sixth of 13 teams at the St. Olaf Invitational on Saturday.

Teams competing came from NCAA Division II and Division III. Minnesota-Duluth won the team race with 52 points, followed by St. Olaf (73), Minnesota State, Mankato (120), Central (138) and Minnesota State, Moorhead (142). Simpson scored 176 as a team, followed by Gustavus Adolphus (180), Concordia-Moorhead (229), Augsburg (248), Winona State (258), Carleton (268), Macalester (270) and Wisconsin-Stout (314).

Farrand completed the 8k course in 26:58, placing 18th overall while leading a young group of Storm runners. Of Simpson's top-seven finishers besides Farrand, three were juniors and three were sophomores.

Sophomore Ryan Edwardson (Spencer, Iowa) finished 28th (27:12), junior Matt Stone (Boone, Iowa) came in 31st (27:19), sophomore Mitchell Davis (Algona, Iowa) placed 62nd (27:49) and was followed closely by sophomore teammateJake Sutton (27:49).

Sophomore John Warnke (Dubuque, Iowa) placed 75th (28:09) and Ben Duea(Waukee, Iowa) took 89th (28:28) to round out the varsity finishers.

Simpson returns to action next weekend when it travels to Davenport, Iowa for the Brissman/Lundeen Invitational, hosted by Augustana (Ill.).
