Storm open season in Wisconsin falling to Marian, UWSP

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The Storm opened their season today as they traveled to Wisconsin to face off against Marian (Wis.) and Wis.-Stevens Point.

In their first match of the day, the Storm fell to Marian in a 3-0 loss, being led by Adriano Roma's nine kills and five digs. The Storm then faced off against Wis.-Stevens Point for an afternoon match in which they lost in straight sets.

HOW IT HAPPENED (vs MARIAN)

  • In the first set, the Storm started down 2-0 before scoring their first point on a kill by Adriano Roma. Midway through the set, Marian went on a 6-0 run, putting the Storm down 16-6. A kill by Cody Durbin cut off the Marian run. After some back and forth late in the set and an ace by Max Robinson, the Storm fell 25-14 in the set.
  • Adriano Roma scored the first point for the Storm in set two, and a kill from Anthony Potratz followed behind. A mid-game 3-0 run for the Storm tied the match at 9-9 with a service ace from Ignacio Aguado Herranz. Marian went on a couple of late-game runs to win the second set 25-16.
  • Simpson scored the first point of the third set with a kill by Adriano Roma, but Marian's 6-0 run put the Storm down 6-1 early on. After fighting back, the Storm were able to bring the match back within one point. Down the stretch, Simpson fell behind 23-19, bringing it to 23-20 on a kill by Anthony Potratz. Marian won set three 25-20.

HOW IT HAPPENED (vs UWSP)

  • Set one began with a 4-0 run for UWSP, but a kill by Adriano Roma cut the run short. Simpson continued to score back and forth with UWSP through the beginning of the set before UWSP pulled away midway through with a 19-13 lead. The Storm lost set one 25-16.
  • A kill by Ignacio Aguado Herranz brought the Storm their first point in set two followed by a kill from Adriano Roma. The Storm hung just two points behind for most of the first half of the set, but a couple of late runs by the Pointers allowed them to win the set 25-12.
  • The Storm fell behind 6-0 in the beginning of the third set. A pair of kills by Aguado Herranz and Roma followed by a service ace from Joseph Wollum brought the team back within two points. UWSP strung together a couple of mid-set runs, and the Storm fell in set three 25-17.
