Frazier, Coughenour post high marks, Meints wins javelin at Kip Janvrin Open
INDIANOLA/DES MOINES, Iowa — The Simpson men's track and field team had nine, top-5 finishes at the 2017 Kip Janvrin Open on Thursday and Friday and sent three events to compete at the Drake Relays to close out a busy week.
Isaac Frazier posted the Iowa Conference's top decathlon of the season at Drake, scoring 6,419 points to place eighth overall. Competing in the event for the first time this season, Frazier was just off his personal-best total and owns the No. 9 mark in Division III.
Competing in front of the home crowd at the Kip Janvrin Open, Braden Meints continued his impressive run in the javelin throw. The first-year member of the team won the event for the fourth straight time this season, topping the field with a toss of 159-feet, 11-inches.
Jordan Coughenour had one of Simpson's four second-place finishes, lowering his personal-best in the 400 hurdles with a 53.66. The mark is tops in the Iowa Conference and No. 12 in Division III.
Isaiah Strong had Simpson's other individual second-place finish, clearing 6-feet, 3/4-inches in the high jump. Both the 4x100 and 4x400 relays also placed second.
