Kalinay breaks 26-year old school record, runs third-fastest time in Division III

IOWA CITY/PELLA, Iowa — Dylan Kalinay set a school record in the 110-meter hurdles at the Musco Twilight in Iowa City while the Simpson men's track and field team captured nine event titles on the way to winning the Central Open in Pella on Saturday.

The Storm had a split squad Saturday as select events competed in Iowa City. The remainder of the squad scored 236 points to edge Central (230) at the Central Open, Simpson's third meet championship of the season.

Kalinay highlighted Simpson's day at the Musco Twilight, running 14.30 to place third behind runners from Iowa and Iowa Central CC. His time is the third fastest in Division III, tops in the Iowa Conference and surpassed the school record of 14.33 set back in 1991 by All-American Mike Godbout.

Jordan Coughenour lowered his IIAC-leading time in the 400 hurdles, setting a new personal-best in 53.99 seconds. He placed eighth in the event and is ranked 16th in Division III.

Chase Wetterling posted the Iowa Conference's third-fastest time in the open 400 as the sophomore ran a personal-best 48.71 to place eighth.

The Storm won nine event titles at the Central Open, including a third-straight win in the javelin throw by Braden Meints, thanks to a personal-best toss of 161-feet, 8-inches. Sam Adeniyi won the 110 hurdles in 15.43, the IIAC's fifth-fastest time, and Keagan Zwiefel ran the IIAC's No. 7 time in the 200 (22.23) to win the event.
