4x400 sets top mark in Division III at Jim Duncan Invitational

DES MOINES, Iowa — The 4x400-meter relay team posted the top mark in Division III, Dylan Kalinay won the 110-meter hurdles and Braden Meints took the title in the javelin throw to highlight the Simpson men's track and field team's showing at the Jim Duncan Invitational over the weekend.

4x400 runs Division III's fastest time
The foursome of Chase Wetterling, Travis Tupper, Matt Pearson and Jordan Coughenour crossed the finish line in 3:15.58, placing second behind Drake. The time topped the mark of 3:15.86 set by Augustana (Ill.), also on Saturday.

Kalinay, Meints take home titles
Kalinay won the 110 hurdles in 15.06, his seventh hurdles win of the 2016-17 season. Running into a brisk headwind, Kalinay held off Garden City's Denim Rogers and Drake's Hudson Priebe.

A week after setting a personal-best in the javelin throw to win the Cornell Invitational, Braden Meints added another win in the javelin with a heave of 147-feet, 2-inches. Teammate Matt Van Metre threw 128-5, good for fourth.

Coughenour, Hovey post some of IIAC's top times
The reining IIAC Track Performer of the Week, Jordan Coughenour retained his place atop the Iowa Conference in the 400-meter hurdles. He lowered his time nearly a full second, running 54.06 after running 55.00 last week at Cornell. His time stands at No. 16 in the country.

Kyle Hovey had a career day in the 1500 meters. The junior placed 13th in the event but posted the No. 2 time in the IIAC, crossing the line in 4:00.44. The time is the fastest by a Simpson runner since Joe Farrand ran 3:56.28 in the 2013 season.
