Kalinay wins hurdles to lead Storm at UNI

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — Dylan Kalinay won the 60-meter hurdles for the second week in a row to lead 10, top-five finishes for the Simpson men's track and field team at the Jack Jennett Invitational on Friday.

Emmitt Wheatley, Mitch Stoltzman and Ian McKenzie added third-place finishes for the Storm, who were competing against teams from Division I, Division III and NAIA. No team scores were kept.

Kalinay set another personal-best in the hurdles, breaking the tape in 8.24 to beat Wichita State's Tyler Knight. In three meets this season, Kalinay has three personal-bests. His time is tops in the Iowa Conference and tied for ninth in Division III.

Coming off a school record in the 200 a week ago, Wheatley took third in the 60 meters Friday. He ran 7.01, just off his season-best of 6.96, which is currently 15th in the nation. Travis Tupper came in fifth, running 7.05. Both Storm runners won their respective heats.

Stoltzman took third in the pole vault, clearing 12-feet, 11 1/2 inches. He went without a foul until failing at 4.10 meters.

McKenzie added the Storm's other third-place effort, running 4:33.76 in the Mile. He finished just ahead of teammate Kyle Hovey, who ran a personal-best 4:35.90.

Nick Kibby set a personal-best to place fourth in the 600, Trey Thompson came in fourth in the 3,000 and Isaac Frazier added a fourth-place effort in the 60 hurdles. Sam Adeniyi led the Storm's high jumpers by clearing 6-feet, 2 3/4 inches to take fourth. He also came in sixth in the 60 hurdles.
