Kalinay earns All-America honors

WAVERLY, Iowa - Simpson's Dylan Kalinay closed his sophomore season with an All-American performance in the 110-meter hurdles, placing eighth Saturday at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

The Toledo, Iowa product reached the award stand in his second trip to nationals after placing 14th in the same event as a freshman in 2015. Kalinay becomes Simpson's first track and field All-American since 2013 and the first 110-meter hurdle All-American since 1991.

Kalinay posted the No. 7 qualifying time Friday and placed eighth in Saturday's final. He ran 14.70, third among non-senior competitors. Salisbury's Luke Campbell won the race, finishing in 13.93.

Kalinay was one of three Simpson athletes competing at nationals. Junior Isaac Frazier placed 11th in the decathlon and freshman Emmitt Wheatley took 17th in the 100-meter dash.

Saturday marked the end of a great season for the Storm track and field team. The men placed third at the IIAC Indoor Championships as Dave Cleveland and his staff earned IIAC Coaching Staff of the Year honors. Frazier was the Indoor Field MVP and the men captured five conference titles - three indoors and two outdoors. The young 4x100-meter relay team, consisting entirely of freshmen and sophomores, set four school records throughout the season, breaking a mark set 23 years ago.
