Kalinay named IIAC Performer of the Week

INDIANOLA, Iowa - Simpson's Dylan Kalinay posted one of the nation's top times in the 110-meter hurdles on the way to his third Iowa Conference Track Performer of the Week honors in 2016, the conference office announced Tuesday.

IIAC Athletes/Performers of the Week - May 9, 2016

A sophomore from Toledo, Iowa, Kalinay won the award for the period ending Sunday, May 9 after running 14.38 in the prelims of the 110-meter hurdles at Loras' Dr. Tucker Invitational, the sixth-fastest time in Division III. The top time in the IIAC this year and fastest time by a Simpson hurdler since 1991, Kalinay all-but assured himself a spot at nationals with the performance. He now ranks third in school history.

In addition to his efforts in the hurdles, Kalinay helped the 4x100-meter relay shatter a school record for the second time in a week. He ran the lead leg as the Storm ran 41.75, the No. 2 time in the IIAC and 27th in Division III. Just a week ago he helped break a 23-year old school record by running 41.92 at the Drake Relays.

Storm sprinters have now won IIAC Track Performer of the Week honors 4 of 6 times this season.

Kalinay and the Storm go to the IIAC Championships in Waverly, Iowa this weekend.
