Men's track and field wins Grinnell Invite

GRINNELL, Iowa - Ian McKenzie, Dylan Kalinay and Isaac Frazier delievered first-place efforts, the Storm turned in 15 top-five performances overall and the Simpson men's track and field team won the Grinnell Invitational on Saturday.

Simpson scored 95 points, 19 ahead of second-place William Penn.

"It's weird to say, but we didn't really put much thought into team points," head coach Dave Cleveland said. "We just put our kids where we thought we needed to see them and didn't pay much attention until the end of the meet. Kids competed, and points just added up."

McKenzie won the Mile, crossing the finish line in a season-best 4:21.63 for his second win in the event this season. He was also the Storm's top finisher in 800, placing 10th in 2:03.38.

Kalinay picked up his first win in the 60 hurdles this season and third of his career, edging teammate Frazier in a season-best 8.51. He also came in fifth in the 60-meter dash (7.25). Frazier ran a career-best 8.60 in the 60 hurdles.

Frazier won the high jump, clearing 6-foot, 5-inches. He was also the Storm's top finisher in the long jump (4th, 20-7 3/4) and the triple jump (8th, 43-1).

"I'm really proud of both teams," Cleveland said. "We grew today and had tons of season bests. This young team is starting to figure out how to compete at a high level."
