Galbraith, Frazier post big multi-scores to lead Storm at Central

PELLA, Iowa – Sarah Galbraith and Isaac Frazier posted a pair of Iowa Conference-leading scores in the mutli-event competitions to lead the Simpson track and field teams at the Dutch Athletics Classic last weekend.

Galbraith posted a personal-best with 2,966 points to win the pentathlon, currently the No. 1 score in the IIAC and No. 21 in all of Division III. Frazier came in second in the heptathlon with a personal-best 4,522 points, also tops in the IIAC and No. 10 in Division III.

The Storm men placed fifth in the 11-team field while the women took seventh of 12.

Though the season is still in its infancy, head coach Dave Cleveland is pleased with what he has seen from his squad thus far.

"With somewhat split squads this weekend, both our men and women competed really well and took another step in the right direction," Cleveland said. "With such a young team, I am pleased with our effort, attitudes, and progress thus far. We need to continue to get better each week as each meet ramps up in competition and importance."

Galbraith won the high jump and long jump on the way to the pentathlon title. She cleared 5-feet, 1/2 inches on the high jump and hit the sand in 15-11 in the long jump, both marks that would have been second in the regular meet.

Frazier took second in the heptathlon competition to an athlete from NAIA Baker University. He won the high jump and the 60 hurdles, clearing 6-4 1/4 in the high jump and breaking the tape in 8.75 in the hurdles.

Other meet highlights included:

• Elizabeth Burgus won the 300 meters in 44.45 seconds and led Simpson with a fourth-place effort in the 60 (8.50).
• Audrey LoVan came in third in the pole vault, clearing 8-8 1/4
• Ian McKenzie and Kyle Hovey took second and third in the 1,000 meters, respectively. McKenzie crossed in 2:37.07 and Hovey clocked in at 2:39.56.
• Travis Tupper took third in the 200 meters (23.19).
• Trevor McKee came in third in the 600 meters (1:25.91).
