Storm run strong on final day of Jim Duncan Invite

DES MOINES, Iowa – The Simpson track and field team put together a number of solid performances on the final day of the Jim Duncan Invitational on Saturday at Drake Stadium.

Catie Ellingson and Kinsey Bak led the way for the Storm with third place finishes in the 800 meters and high jump, respectively.

Competing in the 800 meters for the first time this season, Ellingson broke the tape in 2:15.28. She finished behind NCAA Division II Truman State's Anne Ratermann and Division I South Dakota State's Krista Creager.

Bak put forth an outdoor season best in the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 5 inches on her second jump. She lost to an unattached jumper and Division I South Dakota State's Mary Wirth.

Bayley Fleshner added a fifth-place effort in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing in 15:59.

Sammy Nelson took eighth in the 400 hurdles (1:08.12).

On the men's side it was Taylor Stockdale's seventh-place effort in the shot put that led the way. His toss traveled 39 feet, 5 inches.

Leif Jeppson came in eighth in the 400-meter hurdles (56.80) and Ben Coy added a 10th-place finish in the 400 meters (49.53).

The Storm travel to the Nebraska Wesleyan Invitational next Saturday, April 21.
