Men's tennis trio advances to quarterfinals at IIAC Tournament

WATERLOO, Iowa - Simpson's Peter Reitgraf, Pierce Carey and Nate Sams turned the best individual performances for the Storm men's tennis team at the IIAC Tournament on Friday.

All three reached the quarterfinals of singles play before bowing out of the tournament.

Reitgraf, slated as the No. 2 seed, reached the quarterfinals of the Flight B singles bracket before falling 6-2, 6-3 to Wartburg's Andre Greene.

The senior advanced on a bye in round one and then won 6-1, 6-1 over Wartburg's Colin Jacobs in the second round.

Carey won his first match in three sets, 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (11), and cruised 6-2, 6-1 in round two. He was ousted by No. 1 seed Jared Barnes of Luther in a tight quarterfinal in Flight B singles.

Sams was Simpson's best performer in the Flight C bracket, coming from behind to win 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 (2) in round one. He went on to win 6-1, 6-0 over McClain Holst of Wartburg but fell in straight sets to Coe's Ethan Dirksen.

DOUBLES PLAY
Adam Weiser and Carey won 8-2 in round one of Flight B doubles action but lost 8-3 in the second round. Weiser and Carey were the lone duo to advance past the first round for Simpson.

No Simpson players advanced to the second day of the tournament, which begins at 9 a.m. Saturday.
