Simpson closes Spring Break trip to Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. - Absent the team's No. 1 singles player, the Simpson men's tennis team returns home after its Spring Break trip to Florida looking to get healthy entering Iowa Conference play.

The Storm (3-9) went 1-4 in Central Florida on March 14-16. On March 14, Simpson lost to Berry 8-1 and Western New England 7-2. The next day, Simpson responded with a 6-3 win over Onondaga CC. The trip ended Monday with a 9-0 loss to Bethel and a narrow 5-4 loss to Concordia (Wis.) in the nightcap.

Playing without regular No. 1 Zach Kusick, everyone in the lineup moved up a spot. Despite playing in unfamiliar positions, Simpson got solid production at the No. 1 spot throughout the week. Peter Reitgraf went 2-3 at No. 1 singles and the duo of Jeff Armstrong and Connor Barnard went 3-1 at No. 1 doubles.

In the win over Onondaga, the Storm took 2 of 3 in doubles to take control of the match early. Aaron Smith and Adam Weiser won 8-5 at No. 2, and Armstrong and Gabe Dubberke won 8-6 at No. 3. In singles, Reitgraf earned a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1 and Armstrong won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2. Smith and Dubberke added wins at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.
