Storm top Minnesota Morris 8-1

INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Simpson men's tennis team swept the doubles competition and took 5 of 6 in singles for an 8-1 win over Minnesota Morris on Saturday at Buxton Tennis Complex.

The win improves the Storm's record to 4-11 while the Cougars fall to 0-1.

Simpson set the tone by dominating doubles play, allowing only four points in three matches. Adam Summitt and Daniel Schneider won 8-1, Alex Hook and Jeff Armstrong did the same and Blake Billings and Michael Rundle earned an 8-2 win at the No. 3 spot.

Summitt (No. 1), Hook (No. 2), Schneider (No. 3), Billings (No. 4) and Armstrong (No. 5) all picked up singles victories for the Storm. Summitt beat Caleb Power 6-1, 6-0, Hook blanked Niall McCormick 6-0, 6-0, Schneider beat Tyler Benner 6-1, 6-3 and Armstrong handeled Tyler Ulsby 6-2, 6-1. Billings dropped the first set against Erik Vergiels before getting a win in the super tiebreaker, 4-6, 6-3, 12-10.

Simpson hits the road next weekend when it travels to Dubuque for a pair of conference matches. The Storm take on Dubuque at 9 a.m. and face Loras at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 7.
