Men's tennis earns first win of spring

The Simpson men's tennis team picked up a 7-2 win against Midland Lutheran on Saturday, closing the weekend trip to Nebraska on a high note.

The Storm (2-5) finished the weekend 1-2, earning their first win of the spring season in the process. Simpson lost to Concordia (Neb.) 5-4 to start the weekend on Friday and fell to Doane 8-1 in Saturday's first match.

Simpson started the Midland Lutheran match strong, sweeping the doubles competition. Adam Summitt and Daniel Schneider beat Stuart Booth and Tyler Sherlock 8-5 at No. 1, Alex Hook and Blake Billings topped Tyler Marick and Lee Horky 8-2 at No. 2 and Jeff Armstrong and Andy Ardueser cruised against CJ Anderson and David Burbach, 8-0.

Hook, Schneider, Armstrong and Ardeuser all won singles matches to enter the win column in the spring season.

Simpson won two of three doubles matches against Concordia but managed only two singles wins. Summitt and Schneider took an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles and Armstrong and Ardueser added an 8-6 win at No. 3.

Hook rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Danny Frastaci at No. 2 and Schneider beat Jonathan Heckman 7-5, 6-4 at No. 4.

The Storm hope to build off the Midland Lutheran win when they travel to St. Ambrose next Saturday, Feb. 25. Start time is set for 11 a.m.
