Storm men wrap up consistent showing at Grinnell

GRINNELL, Iowa - Jay Ceperley and Christopher Olds set five total career-bests, helping wrap up a strong performance for the Simpson College men's swimming and diving team at the Pioneer Classic.

In addition to Ceperley and Olds's performances, Gabe Bruns and Nathan Parkins also set season-bests in multiple events. The four swimmers also combined to swim a terrific 400 yard freestyle relay. 

MEN'S MEET RECAP

  • Ceperley set two career-bests in the 100 and 200 yard freestyles, swimming times of 50.02 and 1:50.44.
  • Ceperley's performance in the 200 freestyle was also good for fifth place overall.
  • Olds set career-bests in three events, joining Ceperley in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:57.52.
  • Olds also showcased his versatility with two more career-bests in the 100 yard individual medley (1:06.50) and the long-distance 1,650 meters (18:31.59).
  • Olds and Ceperley were joined by Parkins and Bruns in the 400 yard freestyle relay, swimming a time of 3:41.30, beating the previous season-best by almost 15 seconds.

WOMEN'S MEET RECAP

  • Kate Minette lowered her previous school record in the 100 yard freestyle that she set in last season's American Rivers Conference Championships and also anchored the record-breaking 400 yard relay team, joined by teammates Keelin Curley, Katie Oosterhuis, and Breana Hinson.
  • Minette's time of 54.16 in the 100 yard freestyle beat her previous record of 54.25, as she finished third out of 44 swimmers.
  • The 400 yard freestyle relay team also took third out of 20 teams in a time of 3:46.37, lowering the previous record by over a second.
  • The same four swimmers also teamed up in the 200 yard medley relay, swimming a season-best 1:59.06.
  • Curley also set a career best in the same event, swimming a 55.89 to take seventh.
  • Oosterhuis had an extremely successful day individually as well, beginning with the 100 yard butterfly. She clocked a time of 1:03.08 which is now the fourth-fastest in school history and also set a new career-best in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:15.92.
  • Minette (sixth, 1:06.05) and Oosterhuis (seventh, 1:06.55) also set career-bests of over five seconds in the 100 yard individual medley.
