Top-ten finishes place Storm at sixth after night one of Pioneer Classic

GRINNELL, Iowa -- Three top-ten finishes lead the men's swimming and diving team to sixth place after day one at the Pioneer Classic on Friday, Dec. 1.

After 12 events, Simpson heads into day two with 101 points from four out of the five events of the night - the 200 freestyle relay, 500 freestyle, 50 freestyle and 400 freestyle medley. Gustavus Adolphus takes first place with 392 points.

Noah Nelson's second place in the 500 freestyle was Simpson's top result of the night, tying his school record time of 4:53.47.

The relays round up the other two top-ten finishes of the night. The team of Nick Keller, Nelson, Ryan Gaumer and Noah Bruns finished sixth in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:45.39. In the 200 freestyle relay, the team of Bruns, James McKee, Gaumer and Keller touched the wall at 1:32.87 to tie in eighth place with Gustavus Adolphus 'C'.

The Pioneer Classic continues on Saturday starting at 10 a.m.
