Swimmers turn in record-setting performances at Grinnell

GRINNELL, Iowa – The Simpson swimming and diving teams continued their march down the 2015-16 season at the Grinnell Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 22-23. The women placed 11th of 13 teams and the men took eighth of eight.

The women's team turned in six, top-20 efforts and the men had 15.

Women's Highlights

  • Tori Haag lowered her school record in the 400 IM, taking 23rd in 5:11.63. This weekend marked the second time she set the record in the event after setting it earlier this season, also at Grinnell.
  • Haley Blum turned in the top individual finish, taking 18th in the 100 breaststroke (1:15.77). She also took 22nd in the 200 breaststroke (2:46.05).
  • Jordan Greenwood had a solid showing in the 1650 freestyle, taking 19th (21:41.41).
  • The Storm's top relay finish was the 400 medley relay, as the team of Megan Buitendorp, Blum, Haag and Erica Carlson placed 14th (4:34.38).

Men's Highlights

  • Dylan Gray had the top individual swimming performance of the weekend when he set a school record in the 100 IM, placing ninth in 59.52. He added a 12th-place finish in the 50 freestyle (22.79) and took 14th in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.70).
  • JJ Hansen enjoyed a breakout performance in the 1-meter diving competition, blowing away his previous personal-best by scoring 292.75 points to place fifth. The new school record bests his previous mark of 205.95 set earlier this season.
  • Kyle McKim placed 12th in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.85).
  • The Storm's top relay finish was the 800 freestyle relay of James Tillison, Grant Gullickson, Zachary Lindeberg and Matthew Van Brogen, which placed 11th (9:01.67).
