Storm win six in losses to Loras

INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Simpson swimming and diving teams won six combined events and diver JJ Hansen re-set his own school records in the 1- and 3-meter diving as the Storm men and women lost to Loras.

Loras won the men's competition 117-93 and the women's 130-95.

Men's recap – Dylan Gray and James Tillison took part in all three of Simpson's wins, with Gray winning the 100 freestyle and Tillison taking the title in the 500 freestyle.

Gray touched the wall in 51.27 to win the 100 and Tillison won a thriller in the 500, edging Danny Cepeda at the wall. He finished in 5:33.70 and Cepeda came in at 5:33.75.

Gray and Tillison made up two of the four legs in the winning 400 freestyle relay, joining Scott Wailes and Nicholas Collison. Gray swam a scalding opening leg to put Simpson in the lead and Collison broke open the race on the last leg as the quartet finished in 3:38.16.

Hansen – the reining Liberal Arts Conference Diver of the Week – broke the 200-point plateau in the 1-meter diving for the first time in his career, setting a new school record with 205.95 points. He set a new mark in the 3-meter event as well, scoring 217.50 points. He placed second in both events.

Women's recap – Haley Blum accounted for two of the Storm's three wins, winning the 200 breaststroke and anchoring the winning 400 medley relay.

Tori Haag added Simpson's third win, edging Loras' Rachel Prendergast in the 100 freestyle. Haag finished in 59.10 and Prendergast came in at 59.12.

Blum swam 2:42.24 in the 200 breaststroke, winning the event by nearly four seconds. She started the night by anchoring the 400 medley, swimming the freestyle leg in 59.72 to help Simpson to a 20-second win.
