Triana-Vasquez, Moon earn A-R-C weekly honors

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Simpson College men's soccer junior Jordy Triana-Vasquez and men's cross country junior Spencer Moon earned American Rivers Conference Player of the Week honors in their respective sports, the league announced Tuesday.

This is the second career A-R-C weekly award for Triana-Vasquez as he earned A-R-C Offensive Player of the Week honors for his performance last week. Moon was selected as the A-R-C Runner of the Week for the first time in his career.

Triana-Vasquez started the season in style by scoring four goals and assisting on another in the Storm's 6-1 victory over Augustana on Wednesday. On Saturday, he pushed the game into overtime with an 89th-minute goal before assisting on the game-winner in the 92nd minute to lift Simpson to a 2-1 win at Hamline.

On the course, Moon finished first out of 44 runners to help the Storm win their own event on Friday. During the Bill Buxton Invitational, he clocked a time of 19:07.4 in the 6K to finish 30 seconds ahead of second place. He helped Simpson end with a perfect score of 15 while trimming 27 seconds off his previous-best result in an 6K.

Triana-Vasquez returns to action tomorrow as the squad travels to Carleton for a 4 p.m. match. Moon races in the Grinnell Invitational this Saturday, with the meet beginning at 10 a.m.
