Dean’s hat-trick powers Storm past Nebraska Wesleyan

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Ian Dean scored three goals and the Simpson men's soccer team remained unbeaten in league play, beating Nebraska Wesleyan 4-1 on Wednesday.

Dean scored two of his three goals in the first 30 minutes for a 2-0 lead and the Storm never looked back, improving to 8-3-1 overall and 3-0 in the American Rivers Conference. The Prairie Wolves fell to 4-6 and 0-3 in the league.

Jack Arndt distributed two assists for the Storm.

How it Happened

Dean put Simpson on the board in the 23rd minute on cross from Arndt. He scored again less than 6 minutes later, scoring unassisted in the 29th minute for a 2-0 advantage.

Nebraska Wesleyan scored its lone goal on a penalty kick in the 36th minute, converted by Luke Livingston. The score was the only blemish for Jake Potratz, who made one save between the posts in the win.

Enrique Idehen added an insurance tally in the 69th minute, getting the second assist of the day from Arndt. Dean closed out his gem just over a minute later, getting a helper from Justin Gilmour for the 4-1 lead.

  • Ian Dean produced the 33rd hat-trick in school history and first since Tanner Alderson scored three goals against Grinnell on Sept. 13, 2017.
  • Since dropping two games in Moorhead, Minn. on Sept. 8-9, the Storm have gone 6-1-0 while outscoring opponents 20-4.
  • Simpson, Loras and Luther are the only unbeaten teams remaining in the American Rivers.
