Storm can’t hold early lead, suffer first loss

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- The Simpson men's soccer team couldn't make an early goal stand up, allowing a pair of second-half goals in a 2-1 loss to Wis.-Superior on Saturday.

The Storm (2-1) held a 21-14 advantage in shots but couldn't find the back of the net in the second half, ending their non-conference unbeaten streak at 14 games.

Seth Bowman scored in the 37th minute to give Simpson a 1-0 lead, but that would be the only goal for the Storm on the day. Mason Tynsky came up with the equalizer in the 48th minute and Fernando Bicalho scored the game-winner in the 52nd minute for the Yellowjackets (3-2).

Jake Potratz made six saves in goal for the Storm and Dalton Vonkaenel had eight for the Yellowjackets.

Superior went 14-7-2 and qualified for the NCAA Tournament in 2017.
