Storm roll past Coe, earn third seed in IIAC Tournament

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Justin Gilmour scored two goals as part of a five-goal second half for the Simpson men's soccer team and the Storm cruised to a 6-0 win over Coe in the regular season finale Tuesday night.

The win gives the Storm (14-2-2, 5-2-1 Iowa Conference) the No. 3 seed in the upcoming Iowa Conference Tournament, which begins Saturday, Oct. 28. Simpson will host No. 6 seed Wartburg at Buxton Stadium following the football game between the Storm and Buena Vista.

An official start time has not yet been set.

Gilmour's first two goals of the season came in the second half, striking less than a minute into the period to put Simpson up 2-0. Tanner Alderson took an assist from Seth Bowman in the 59th minute to make it 3-0, then Gilmour scored for the second time just 34 seconds later.

Garrett Pochop put Simpson on the board, heading in a long cross from Jack Arndt in the 37th minute. Enrique Idehen and Ian Dean tacked on goals in the final 20 minutes. Dean added an assist.

Chris Harris went the distance between the posts to earn the win in goal, making one save. Alec Balta made nine saves in goal for the Kohawks (3-13, 0-8).

• Simpson's 14 wins are the program's most under Rick Isaacson and most since getting 15 wins in 2002.
• Simpson's No. 3 seed in the IIAC Tournament is the highest for the program since also securing the third seed in 11, Isaacson's first season.
• Six goals scored are the most by Simpson this season and most since scoring seven in a 7-2 win over Buena Vista on Oct. 25, 2016.
• The Simpson defense pitched its fifth shutout of the season.
• Pochop and Alderson finished the regular season with 15 goals apiece.
