Storm remain undefeated, settle for draw at Augustana

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — Ian Dean connected on the equalizer in the 77th minute to help the Simpson men's soccer team earn a 2-2 tie with Augustana on Sunday, preserving the team's unbeaten record.

Simpson's unbeaten streak was in danger as the Storm (8-0-1) trailed for 40 minutes. Behind 1-0 at halftime, Garrett Pochop tied the game early in the second half. The Vikings (0-5-1) re-took the lead in the 60th minute.

Jack McKearnan scored the first goal of the game on a penalty kick in the 23rd minute following a Simpson foul in the box. Pochop tied the score in the 47th minute, his team co-leading ninth of the season.

Dean's game-tying goal came off an assist from Colin Robinson to help Simpson continue the best start to a season in school history.

The Storm return home to face Iowa Wesleyan on Wednesday, Sept. 27. The Tigers (4-3-1) beat Nebraska Christian College 5-1 on Friday. Start time is set for 5 p.m.

• Simpson took a season-high 24 shots in the game, outshooting the Vikings 24-14. Simpson has outshot its last seven opponents.

• Pochop increased his career total to 41 goals, just two shy of becoming the program's all-time leader. Mitchell White holds the record with 42 goals from 2011-14.

• Simpson improves to 10-8-9 in extra time under seventh-year head coach Rick Isaacson. The Storm went just 3-6-6 from 2012-15 but are 4-2-2 in extra time over the last two seasons.
