Alderson, Potratz named IIAC Players of the Week

INDIANOLA, Iowa — For the second time in three weeks, Tanner Alderson and Jake Potratz swept Iowa Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week honors. The duo earned the award for the period ending Sunday Sept. 17, the conference office announced Monday.

Alderson, the offensive player of the week, scored four goals in three games to increase his league-leading total to seven through six games. Potratz earned defensive player of the week honors, going 2-0 with seven saves and just one goal allowed.

The Storm went 3-0 on the week with wins over Grinnell (4-1), Westminster (5-0) and Principia (2-1). Simpson improved to 6-0 on the season.

A sophomore forward from Parkville, Mo., Alderson recorded a hat-trick in the win over Grinnell, scoring all three goals in the final 13:46. After going without a goal for just the second time this season against Westminster, he scored the equalizer in the Storm's comeback win over Principia. His seven goals rank 11th in Division III.

A freshman goalkeeper from Norwalk, Iowa, Potratz picked up wins over Grinnell and Westminster, allowing just one goal in 180 minutes of action. He made seven saves — all against Grinnell — and lowered his goals against average to 0.42. His 5.4 saves per game lead the IIAC.
