Alderson, Potratz named IIAC Players of the Week

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Tanner Alderson scored three goals in two games, Jake Potratz didn't allow a goal in more than 150 minutes between the posts and the duo swept the first Iowa Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week honors of the season.

Alderson and Potratz helped the Storm to 2-0 record and a championship at the Illinois Tech Tournament. Simpson upset No. 25 Wis.-Whitewater 1-0 in the opener before knocking off the host Red Hawks 3-2.

Alderson also earned Iowa Conference Male Athlete of the Week honors for the period ending Sunday, Sept. 3. The sophomore midfielder from Parkville, Mo. finished the weekend with three goals and one assist, continuing a tear that started last season. He scored the lone goal against Whitewater then added two and an assist against Illinois Tech, giving him 12 goals over the last nine games.

A freshman from Norwalk, Iowa, Potratz made 18 saves in two games to begin his career 2-0. He made 11 saves in the shutout win over Whitewater then made seven in 60 minutes of action against Illinois Tech.

Each player brings home the conference weekly accolade for the first time. Simpson last swept the honors on Oct. 9, 2016 when Garrett Pochop won the offensive award and Josh Harry took home the defensive honor.
