Winning streak snapped at Elmhurst

ELMHURST, Ill. — Garrett Pochop added to his conference-leading goal total with a pair of penalty shots but the Simpson men's soccer team couldn't recover from a slow first half in a 5-2 loss at Elmhurst on Monday.

Ranked eighth in the Central Region, the Bluejays (5-2-2) scored four goals in the first half en-route to handing Simpson its worst loss of the season. Matt McNamara scored in the fourth minute and Elmhurst kept pressure on Simpson's defensive third the remainder of the half.

JD Garnett scored two goals for Elmhurst, which improved to 3-0 all-time against Simpson. The Blujays won 3-2 in double overtime last season.

Pochop converted penalty kicks in the 54th and 60th minutes for the Storm (6-3-1), who saw their three-game winning streak come to a close. Pochop now has 10 goals on the season, the most in the Iowa Conference and 10th-most in Division III.
