Men's soccer extends winning streak, will host IIAC Tournament game

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Simpson chose the right time to start playing its best soccer of the season.

Cody Jacobson and Garrett Pochop scored two goals apiece and the Storm cruised to a 7-0 win over Buena Vista in the regular season finale Tuesday, earning the No. 4 seed in the upcoming Iowa Conference Tournament.

The Storm (9-8-2, 4-2-1 Iowa Conference) climbed into a tie for third place in the league standings with its fourth-straight win, making the midseason four-game slide seem like a thing of the past. Simpson has outscored opponents 14-1 during the winning streak.

Simpson tied Luther with 13 points in league play with the win, but the Norse earned the tiebreaker for the No. 3 seed based on adjusted goal differential. Simpson will host No. 5 seed Wartburg on Saturday.

Jacobson scored twice in the first half as Simpson raced out to a 5-0 lead. Jacobson scored in the fourth minute, Louis Joslyn added a goal in the sixth minute and Tyler Neumann made it 3-0 in the 14th minute.

Pochop scored his first goal in the 28th minute, Jacobson added his second in the 30th and Sam Stephens rounded out the first half scoring in the 44th minute.

Head coach Rick Isaacson took the foot off the gas in the second half as 24 players got into the game. Pochop's 71st minute tally was the only score of the second half.

Austin Schafer earned the win in frame, logging the first 45 minutes to move to 5-2-1 on the season. Chris Harris and Matt Stewart also saw time.

The Beavers (5-12, 0-7) failed to put a shot on goal and were outshot 28-1.

NEUMANN ADDS TO RECORD
Tyler Neumann had two assists Tuesday, adding to the career record he set just two games ago. Neumann became Simpson's all-time leader with his assist in the 3-0 win over Coe on Oct. 16 and increased his career total to 24.
