PELLA, Iowa - The Simpson men's soccer team used a pair of second-half goals to pull away from Central and extend its winning streak in the series with a 3-1 win Wednesday.
Darius Doswell, Marcus Varnum and Cody Jacobson all found the back of the net for the Storm (6-8-2, 1-2-1 Iowa Conference), who led 3-0 before allowing a goal in the closing minutes. Simpson won its fourth consecutive game in the series.
Doswell put Simpson on the board in the 22nd minute, converting a one-timer from the top of the box after a mistake in Central's back line. Varnum scored in the 49th minute, his second goal in as many games. Jacobson made it 3-0 on a close-range goal in the 87th minute.
Bryce Leonard prevented the shutout for the Dutch (4-10, 1-3), who lost their fourth straight game.
Austin Schafer made three saves in his third-straight start in goal.
