Bad bounce costs Storm in overtime loss

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Jared Wolt scored the game-winner four minutes into overtime as Saint Mary's (Minn.) came back for a 3-2 win over the Simpson men's soccer team Wednesday evening.

Wolt – who scored the game-tying goal in the 72nd minute – collected a rebound off the post 4:22 into overtime, helping the Cardinals (3-4) come back from a 2-1 deficit. The win snapped a four-game losing streak.

The Storm (4-4-1) made it look easy early on, jumping out to a 1-0 lead when Darius Doswell hammered in Tyler Neumann's cross from five yards out just 2:32 into the contest.

But Saint Mary's answered quickly, getting a header from Sean Butcher off a long Chris Beiersdorf throw-in in the 11th minute.

Marcus Varnum put Simpson ahead in the 41st minute, going far post from the right win on a helper by Nick Joslyn.

The lead held until Wolt took advantage of a misplayed ball in Simpson's back line, allowing him to find the back of the net from inside the box.

Simpson held a 15-13 edge in shots and put three more shots on goal. Evan Claffy made five saves in the relief win while Zach McEntee made three in the loss.
