INDIANOLA, Iowa – Making a special appearance on one of Simpson's natural grass fields, the Simpson men's soccer team cruised to a 2-0 win against Rockford on Saturday.
Tyler Neumann's first goal of the season gave the Storm (2-0) a 1-0 lead early in the first half and Garrett Pochop added an insurance tally in the second.
Simpson's two-goal win could have been more, as the Storm outshot Rockford 29-3 and held a 10-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Simpson struck first when Neumann took a touch from Darius Doswell, beat the Rockford keeper and took advantage of the open net in the ninth minute. Doswell also assisted on Pochop's goal, which extended the lead to 2-0 in the 53rd minute.
Starting goalkeeper Anthony Beck made 11 saves for the Regents (1-2).
The Storm moved their operation to the grass field near fraternity row, a pitch commonly used in the early 2000s before field turf was installed at Buxton Stadium.
